01

The game

A surveillance-state stealth adventure.

Intense, thrilling, and topical, République is a stealth-action game that explores the perils of government surveillance in the Internet Age.

The player receives a desperate call from Hope, a woman trapped inside an oppressive totalitarian state. By hacking into the nation’s surveillance network and taking control, the player guides her through danger and deception across five episodes.

Challenging puzzles and complex strategy are offset by the simplicity of the game’s one-touch controls. Striking visuals, an atmospheric score, and an all-star cast made République one of the most ambitious games developed for iOS at the time.

The one-touch control scheme was refined over two years by a team with experience on Metal Gear Solid 4, Halo 4, F.E.A.R., Black & White 2, and SOCOM.

02

Awards & technology

Recognition beyond the release.

République was nominated in four categories at the 10th International Mobile Game Awards: Best Technical Achievement, Excellence in Innovation, Excellence in Storytelling, and Excellence in Sound Design.

The project also became a technical reference for Unity 5 developers worldwide.

03

PlayStation prototype

Bringing Hope to PS4.

In late 2014, while the team completed the PC and Mac port, Ryan Payton commissioned a controller-driven prototype. Working remotely, I mapped Hope’s movement to the left analog stick and camera movement to the right stick, helping prove the game could translate from touch controls to PlayStation 4.
